ABOUT
Mateo Gargallo Aguilella (Castellón, 1994) is an accessories designer based in Barcelona. After finishing his studies on pattern design at LCI Barcelona in 2019 decides to explore creating upcycled clothing under the creative name of 'Mateu-lo'. He develops a special interest in accessories which results into the creation of pieces such as a handbag made out of bedlinen, hats from deconstructed plush toys and necklaces using dead-stock beads. Due to the restrictions of 2020 lockdown focuses the production on necklaces, exploring shapes and techniques, attracting attention later on from industry insiders like María Bernad, who invites him to collaborate on her platform ‘Les Fleurs Studio’. In 2021 during Paris Fashion Week his necklaces can be seen in the Palomo Spain's show for its Fall/Winter 2021 collection ’Nuevo Día’ and at MBFW Madrid at Dominnico’s show for its Fall/Winter 2021 collection ‘Omega’ presenting a collaboration with the designer.
Mateu-lo’s connection to the music scene has been present since the beginning with the creation customized pieces for singer LunaKi and with his pieces making appearances in music videos and performances of artists like Rojuu or Rigoberta Bandini. This relationship to the scene led to the creation of a custom rosary for the book ‘Making Flus’ by the creators of the online show ‘El Bloque’.
